CHILD SAFETY

Child safety isn’t a gimmick; it’s a priority. A&I Manufacturing is committed to offering products and educational resources that ensure a worry-free environment in family homes.

Avoiding tragedy and creating a worry-free, child-safe environment involves making educated choices in window treatments for your home. As a family-owned business, A&I is pleased to provide products and resources that will help keep your child safe.

According to a 2017 study in Pediatrics, two children every day were treated in emergency departments for injuries caused by window blinds between 1990 and 2015. These injuries resulted in as many as 271 pediatric deaths during that time period.

A nationwide survey from the Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC) found that “86 percent of adult consumers are aware of the strangulation hazard certain window covering cords may pose to infants and young children.”

Creating a worry-free, child safe environment involves making educated choices in window treatments for your home.

WHAT WE ARE DOING

1. WE ARE “COMMITTED TO CORDLESS”

We make cordless options in virtually every product line, including 1” and 2” horizontal blinds, roller shades, and cell shades — contributing to a worry-free, child-safe environment.

2. Motorization is kind of our “thing”

We are constantly striving to expand our line of motorized products. Currently, we offer a variety of motorized products that contribute, not only to touch-free convenience, but also to safety in the home. Currently, we offer motorized 1” and 2” horizontal blinds, cell shades, and roller shades.

3. WE ADHERE TO NATIONAL SAFETY STANDARDS

All of our products, corded and cordless, adhere to national safety standards for window coverings set by the Window Covering Manufacturers Association (ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2018). This safety standard strengthens window-covering safety by requiring that all stock products sold in stores and online—which account for more than 80 percent of all window covering products sold in the U.S. and Canada—to be cordless or have inaccessible cords. WHAT YOU CAN DO

1. KEEP CORDS AND CABLES OUT OF REACH

A lot of window treatments manufactured in recent years, tend have long cords to raise or lower. Those same cords are a safety hazard for small children and pets. These include cords running through blind slats. Keep all furniture, including your infants cribs, away from windows that have window coverings.

2. INSTALL TENSION DEVICES TO SECURE HAZARDOUS CORDS

Cord cleats can secure dangling cords, keeping them out of reach of small children and eliminating risk.

3. UPGRADE YOUR WINDOW TREATMENTS

If your blinds, shades, or drapes were manufactured before 2001, now is a perfect opportunity to explore a variety of cordless options. A&I manufactures a large selection of blinds and shades that meet updated safety standards.
